Hemorrhoid surgery 2nd year review, how long will the gauze last?

How long should I wear gauze after hemorrhoid surgery?

Hemorrhoid Surgery 2nd Year Review

Around this time two years ago, I had a hemorrhoid surgery to remove a third-degree complex hemorrhoid. In fact, I didn’t even know I had hemorrhoids. My anus was just itching like crazy, so my quality of life dropped drastically. I thought it was a roundworm infection, so I took a dewormer, but it didn’t work at all, so I went to the hospital and they said I had hemorrhoids. They said it was a third-degree complex hemorrhoid. As a side note, I started dieting around that time and was obsessed with my weight. I once strained as much as I could in the bathroom to get even a single piece of poop out and lose a few grams of weight. I think that’s why I developed acute hemorrhoids. I think the degeneration of hemorrhoidal tissue is caused by excessive straining (increased pressure) rather than constipation itself.

In fact, hemorrhoids are originally normal cushion tissues that maintain the pressure of the anus. In other words, everyone has hemorrhoids, and if you go to the hospital and get diagnosed, there is no one who does not have hemorrhoids. This means that even if you are diagnosed with early-stage hemorrhoids, you do not necessarily need to get surgery. In my case, the pain from anal itching was so severe that I had no choice. However, there can be many causes of anal itching, and it may not necessarily be due to hemorrhoids. Doctors can easily misdiagnose. This is especially true for young doctors who do not have much experience. It would be nice if we could buy a new one just like we buy a new smartphone when it breaks, but the anus cannot return to its original state once a knife is put on it. So we need to make a more careful decision.

The average person has no choice but to believe everything a doctor says. However, there are more doctors who are desperate to make money than you might think. If someone says, “I’ll perform the surgery!”, there are few doctors who will stop them because they are making money. The reason doctors are rich is because there are people who are exploited for their wealth. So, be sure to consult with several doctors at several hospitals, and ask them in detail whether the uncomfortable symptoms will really go away if you have the surgery. You pay the medical fee just to hear those few answers. I don’t know why, but there aren’t many doctors who are kind enough to explain everything, so it’s a good idea to study separately. If you absolutely have to have the surgery, it’s obvious that you should have it done by a doctor who is experienced and good at it. Personally, I think that older doctors are more experienced than younger doctors, so they are less likely to make a misdiagnosis, and they are also good at performing the surgery.

When I search on Google, I see quite a few articles that say that hemorrhoid surgery is not that painful. I don't really know what they mean. It's not a lie that the surgery is painless because it's done under anesthesia. However, the reason hemorrhoid surgery is painful is because you have to keep defecating through the incision. It's not the surgery itself, but the pain after the surgery that is very severe. I remember a review of hemorrhoid surgery where a father who said that his daughter was joking because it hurt so much while defecating after the surgery was taken to the emergency room after undergoing the surgery himself. The person who wrote an article saying that hemorrhoid surgery is not painful has probably never had the surgery. If you look closely, it may have been posted on a hospital website or written by a doctor. They have to have the surgery to make money. Oh, of course, the degree and size of the wound, the hardness and size of the stool are all different, so the pain varies from person to person. However, you can't predict how much pain you'll have until you have the surgery. In short, it's a hit or miss.

How long does gauze last after hemorrhoid surgery?

Two years have passed since that excruciatingly painful time. Time really flies. In fact, I was going to write a review of my hemorrhoid surgery in the first year, but in my case, there wasn't much of a difference from about three months after the surgery to one year. After that, there wasn't much progress until the second year. For two years after the hemorrhoid surgery, every time I had a bowel movement, it was hard and difficult, and I often saw bloody stools with red lines due to torn and bleeding. Of course, I had to put gauze on right after the bowel movement, and since my stool was leaking little by little (not in lumps like fecal incontinence in the elderly, but liquid stool was leaking), I had to wash my anus twice a day, in the morning and evening, and always put gauze on. And I had to poop urgently and couldn't hold it in well. Oh, when I felt like I had to poop, I felt like a missile was going to come out, so I had to go to the bathroom urgently.

When I was consulting for the surgery, I asked about fecal incontinence, but they said that since hemorrhoid surgery does not touch the sphincter muscle, there is no fecal incontinence. However, the sphincter muscle is not the only one responsible for anal pressure. If a lot of hemorrhoid tissue is removed, stool may leak. Also, the anal diameter may become narrower. It is natural since a lot of flesh was removed. I did not have any findings of anal stenosis, but I feel that the anal diameter has become narrower than before the surgery. My stool has not become particularly thicker, but after the hemorrhoid surgery, I feel pain every time I have a bowel movement. It is the same whether the blood bursts or not. Before the hemorrhoid surgery, I did not like tight body parts, so I was a natural person who did not wear a bra and panties at home, but after the hemorrhoid surgery, I always wear panties because of fecal incontinence.

It's the third year since the new year, and recently, when I poop, it's tight and uncomfortable, but there's no blood. However, I still use gauze. I use cotton sanitary pads and menstrual cups, so I don't have to spend money on sanitary pads, but the cost of gauze is as much as the cost of sanitary pads. The anal itching is gone, but I have a chronic disease called fecal incontinence. I always carry gauze with me wherever I go. Sometimes, when I see people traveling the world or camping on YouTube, I think they're all healthy and I envy them. Personally, I think the reason I got vaginitis more often after hemorrhoid surgery was because of fecal incontinence. When stool leaks, it's visible to the naked eye and smells, so if you're married, it might affect your married life.

Oh, and I ended up getting skin tags. Skin tags can be caused by exercise, sitting for long periods of time, tight clothing, frequent diarrhea (the stool becomes acidic), constipation, and scars from the healing process after hemorrhoid surgery. Skin tags are also hit or miss. I was lucky that the skin tags weren't severe and didn't cause any discomfort, but for some people, they can cause irritation such as itching, or they can be a problem in terms of hygiene or aesthetics. Skin tags are also already degenerated skin tissue, like hemorrhoid tissue, so natural healing is difficult. However, they can be easily removed with laser treatment, and they aren't as painful as hemorrhoid surgery, so if you do get skin tags, I don't think you have to worry too much.

Regrets about hemorrhoid surgery

Since you have already had the knife and cannot turn back time, what good is regretting having hemorrhoid surgery? However, I sometimes think that I should have visited a few more hospitals, studied the side effects more, and asked more detailed questions about the surgery method. Even if there are side effects, it is different if you know it and do it without knowing it. It is best not to have hemorrhoid surgery unless it causes severe discomfort. These days, even ordinary people can easily find specialized information by Googling. If you absolutely must have the surgery, I hope you study hard and make a careful decision so that you do not regret it.
